We’re wrapping up the year this week with the very best of the Modern Jewish Weddings we’ve showcased all year.
To start us off this Monday Morning is an Elegant Mountain wedding taken by one of our very favorite photographers, Pepper Nix. Let us count the many reasons this was chosen as one of our favorites: the view of the mountains from the chuppah, the gorgeous natural tree chuppah with the vibrant greenery, the neutral dresses for the bridesmaids and the naked cake. All these details add up to one Elegant MJW.
Jonathan is a surgeon and Grace works for a medical device company. As it so happens, he came to start his fellowship at a hospital where she was working. The couple met in an operating room. Jonathan proposed on an unseasonably cold night in January in the middle of Park Avenue on the way to dinner on New York City’s upper east side.
It was 14 degrees and he got down on one knee on the median. We would always joke about getting stuck on the “island” or median on the big avenues in NYC. He said if he were to ever be stuck on an island, there’s no one else he’d rather be stuck with! Then we had dinner and he whisked me away to Turks and Caicos the very next morning to celebrate our engagement. It was magical. Jonathan designed the ring. It’s a beautiful cushion cut with graduated round diamonds leading up to the big diamond. I couldn’t love anything more. It’s my most prized possession.”
The couple love to ski but, didn’t want a winter wedding. They settled on Deer Valley as a destination wedding. The view of the green lush mountain behind the deck is simply breathtaking.
I didn’t want a cold winter wedding though so we opted for a summer mountain wedding and that encompassed all my outdoor wedding visions. I always wanted an outdoor wedding. I love summer.”
One of our favorite MJW details are the bridesmaids dresses. Grace tells us,
Bridesmaid dresses are so hard. Because they are generally pretty terrible. I wanted them to be different as every bride does but couldn’t reinvent the wheel too much so I chose 3 different colors from Amsale in truffle, champagne and vanilla and since I had 6 maids, I let them all chose from 3 styles. It was inspired from Molly Sims wedding and colors where they all wore different but complementary dresses. It turned out great! So beautiful with all the different colors and meshed so well with the mountain environment.”
One of my favorite moments of the whole weekend was the morning after. We didn’t eat a lot at the wedding per usual. We had a little bit of cake when we cut it for pictures, but someone put 2 slices of our wedding cake in our room, and when we woke up in the morning, we blissfully ate our delicious wedding cake in bed. One of the most special moments by ourselves of the weekend.”
Grace’s advice for future brides?
Keep it simple. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel for every little thing. Simple elegance always works.”
