Alicia & John met while studying to become architects. They knew early on that they didn’t want a traditional wedding and opted for a Sunday Brunch affair at a beautiful old mansion near the Ohio River in Cincinnati’s Columbia Tusculum historic district.
Their intimate Interfaith ceremony was held at Ault Park‘s beautiful Rose Garden and it provided some incredible backdrops. The flowers were from a wild flower farm.
The Brunch reception at The Carnegie Center carried on the laid back feeling of the day and the guests enjoyed a mimosa bar and fun passed hors d’oeuvres like the “bee kisses” (French Brie, orange blossom honey and toasted pecans in French pastry crust).
Laura, their photographer tells us, “This wedding was romantic, relaxed and fun!”
Alicia surprised her mom by having “Here, There and Everywhere” by The Beatles as the music played during the recessional. The same song her Mom & Dad used for their recessional.
One of my favorite touches at the reception was their “time capsule guest book.” They had a cool blue container for 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20 year anniversaries and guests were encouraged to leave a note, draw a picture or predict the future for them to open on future anniversaries.
The bride infused her own personality by making her own table numbers by laser cutting acrylic which is what she does for her own business.
The couple made a bold choice by electing to serve tref on their brunch menu. That takes the “Modern” in The Modern Jewish Wedding to a whole new place.
