Did anyone see Glee last week? Anyone willing to admit your guilty pleasure? Here goes, mine, aside from watching entirely to much TV (most of it reality based) is I secretly like Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties.
Modern Jewish Brides (and those who love them) don’t get me wrong–I adore looking at wedding photos all day long. But, when it comes to attending a party. I’m more likely to have F-un, with a capital F, at a Bar/Bat Mitzvah than a Modern Jewish Wedding.
Why? Well, let’s face it, it’s a lot harder to entertain everyone from younger sibling to Great-Grandma with a bunch of young teens than a mature mostly adult guest list.
That’s why Bar/Bat Mitzvah parties are well themed, always trying out the latest in entertainment and usually always on the cutting edge of trends.
Let’s take a look at Alexandra’s party and see what we can apply to your Modern Jewish Wedding Reception.
Candies to throw, mixed color kippot and a unique “guest book”–a photo to sign, frame and keep– as opposed to a book that will gather dust and never be looked at!
Another form of a more unique guest book–a plate that can become a serving platter in the future.
Making the challah a showpiece before the party really gets started!
Bar/Bat Mitzvah parties usually have a theme!
This one is the movies. The Bat Mitzvah girl, Alexandra, has a starring role. A wedding theme can be apparent through the use of table signage, the colors, even small touches on the cake (like the stars) and the decor.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah food tend to be food stations–which is the hottest trend in catering right now.
