Every summer we count down the list of the Best Modern Jewish Wedding Movie Inspiration. We take movies like Father of the Bride, The Wedding Crashers and Dirty Dancing, give them the Modern Jewish Wedding treatment and voila — movie inspired fabulousness (all of which you can see on our pinterest board dedicated to the features). We have no idea how this happened–but, My Big Fat Greek Wedding never made the list? We’re rectifying the error TODAY. Just in time for this weekend and what will surely be a fabulous sequel (we’ll let you know for sure, because we have a special office party viewing planned).
The sequel has been 14 years in the making, so, we don’t expect all of you to know the original story. “A young Greek woman falls in love with a non-Greek and struggles to get her family to accept him while she comes to terms with her heritage and cultural identity.” Substitute the word “Jewish” for “Greek” and you get the idea…
In our re-imaging of Tula & Ian’s wedding and reception we remembered our favorite scenes and started there. The ladies all getting ready, the limo ride, the Tiffany blue bridesmaids dresses, the hora, the cake(s) and the wedding buffet are all still here (just with a lot less tulle).
We know she has a big wedding party to help her get ready and they the bridesmaids all still dressed in blue. We stayed with the very traditional and elegant wedding ceremony venue with a limo ride to the reception. We went with a tiered cake, instead of cakes on tiers. We stayed true to the wedding color palette of white and gold. We even kept the over-abundant buffet with lamb. Because we know there would be a hora to end all horas, complete with specialty made chairs just for the purpose, our Modern Jewish Tula makes sure she and all her guests have a comfy pair of dancing shoes.
