There is a lot we could say about this dramatic Modern Jewish Wedding. But, we’re going to let Bride Hilary & her A-MAH-ZING photographer Sarah tell us instead!
Andrew and I are young, 25, so we wanted a venue that felt modern and fresh, but also romantic. I am from New York, and Andrew is from Massachusetts, so for the wedding we picked Le Parker Meridien New York because it was the perfect combo of elements like us (a hidden burger joint, all day breakfast, wine bar, and totally hip basement with a gym, hair place, etc). For the vendors, we picked people who were all artists in their field. I didn’t talk to any secretaries, and worked directly with all the individual vendors. I spent hours looking through NY Times Magazine Wedding, bookmarking my favorites, contacting them and narrowing down the field from there.
The floral arrangements set the tone for the whole wedding. We had an earthy/organic ceremony & cocktail hour followed by a dramatic red reception (complete with hundreds of roses). I spent a lot of time choosing the individual components so I couldn’t wait to see how it came together. I tried to add my personal touches wherever possible, such as hand drawing and printing my Save the Date cards, and drawing the illustrations for the Wedding Invitations.
From one of our most fav photographers, Sarah Tew
Hilary & Andrew planned their wedding in midtown Manhattan at the fabulous hotel, Le Parker Meridian. Hilary is an artist herself (look at her beautiful work!) and I knew she valued my creativity so I was particularly excited to scout around the area and get ideas for where we might do some great portraits of the couple and their wedding party– there was so much to work with in the surrounding blocks I knew it would be hard to fit all my ideas in, but we managed to get a bunch of what I had in mind at spots like the oh-so-appropriate LOVE sculpture and nearby spots around office parks and the sidewalks that really offered excellent ‘city views’ with graphic elements of interest in the background.
After portraits with family back indoors we captured their Ketubah signing and ceremony followed by a cocktail hour on the 3rd floor before guests were sent up the elevators to the reception room and it’s terrace overlooking Manhattan.
A delight for me came just after the first look— Andrew hadn’t been able to figure out his bow tie so he got Hilary’s help with it and for a few sweet minutes we got to quietly document this sweet moment between them. I always love hearing the toasts but there was one particular story about Andrew’s support of Hilary through the stress of her first gallery opening where her work was for sale… being a creative professional myself I found this story incredibly touching as I know from experience how invaluable and stabilizing my own husband’s belief in me has been. Congratulations to this sweet couple, they couldn’t be more wonderful together!”
