Modern Jewish Wedding Celebrates Simchat Torah

Sound the shofar!  Today is Simchat Torah.  We never miss a Modern Jewish Holiday which is an excuse for a par-ty!

Why? It literally means, “Rejoice in Torah.” Although it is one of the lesser known and celebrated holidays in the diaspora; it is one of the most fun Jewish holidays of the year. We complete one cycle of the reading of the Torah (all Five Books of Moses) and we start a new cycle of weekly readings, with “The Beginning,” Bereshit! The story of creation. To celebrate the accomplishment, to acknowledge we learn something new every year and to begin again (sort of like the New Year’s holiday) we will sing, dance and imbibe!

In fact, last night at Synagogue if you’d walked in, you might have been surprised by the raucousness of it all.  Simchat Torah comes right behind Purim in its association with alcohol.

Because we LOVE our signature cocktails, we thought we’d share some creations just for the holiday.

The end of the Torah Cycle comes with a reading from Moses and the beginning of the Torah Cycle is Creation.

We decided for a speech from Moses we needed a classic cocktail.  Inspired by the season (because if we haven’t said it enough–we LOVE fall) a Manhattan fits the bill.  Made with applejack, whiskey and topped with champagne it’s a classic.

For the beginning of the Torah and the story of Creation, we wanted to select a bolder and fresh taste.  How about a Spiced Cranberry Moonshine?

Are you choosing signature cocktails for your Modern Jewish Simcha?  How’d we do with our picks?
