Looking at weddings is pretty and fun, and this elegant fall celebration in Milwaukee is no exception. However, it’s made even more beautiful by the touching story behind it (warning, you might need a tissue!)
Gretchen lost her mother to cancer 2010, but knew she wanted to incorporate her presence into the wedding day. Before she passed away, her mom fixed up a vintage Avion trailer. The couple brought it down from northern Wisconsin and made it a station for guests to enjoy during the cocktail hour.
The bride says her favorite part of the day was “Right before I walked down the aisle, I was standing next to my dad and looked out at my husband, our loving friends and family. The beautiful sun beat down on our backyard and I smiled at how the day was everything I’d ever imagined…I know that my mom’s energy was shining down on us in her absence.”
The couple chose a Jewish ceremony beneath a floral-lined chuppah designed by their florist. Gold and burgundy wedding colors illuminated the day – from the classic invitations and programs and the bridesmaids’ floor-length garnet colored gowns to the neatly tailored bouquets and floral arrangements. The bride wore Vera Wang and the groom Hugo Boss – a perfect pair.
For the tented reception, fall colors appeared effortlessly elegant with touches of rustic charm largely in thanks to planner Luxe Events. Cocktail tables were draped with sparkly gold sequin linens from BBJ, and the tent itself was studded with twinkling white lights.
The reception menu was 95% dairy, soy, and gluten-free, catering to the needs of the couple and several guests without sacrificing flavor. Quite a feat for the caterer! Guests also enjoyed fall flavors of mulled wine and apple cider and an impressive dessert spread with treats like mini pumpkin maple cakes and chocolate-banana peanut butter cream pies.
Gold flatware, beaded rimmed chargers and a traditional wedding cake adorned with bronze sugar flowers elevated the meaning of a backyard wedding. In one last meaningful touch, they created gold horseshoes to reflect bit of flare from Texas and Winona, Minnesota and to represent good luck. Judging by this couple’s touching story and the 300 guests there to support them, these two are sure to enjoy even more good fortune in the future.
